List of Charges and How to Pay

Payments can be made by cash, cheque made payable to Cheshire West and Chester Council, or by telephone using a credit/debit card (Mastercard, Visa or Visa Delta). Please do not send cash through the post.

If you are paying for research, copying or publications by credit or debit card, you can order online.

Photocopies and digital images

Please specify a maximum amount you are willing to spend and we will copy up to that amount. You will then be notified of any additional charge and asked to pay the remainder. You will initially only be charged £4.00.

Please note that if you order copies in the Record Office searchroom the minimum charge of £4.00 will not apply as it should be possible to calculate the exact cost at point of ordering.

List of additional charges for prints from images we create using our camera.  This applies to items which we cannot copy with a photocopier such as volumes, coloured items, fragile items and large format items.

All other postage and packing charges can be given on application.

Search Fees

If we have not been supplied with sufficient information to identify a particular document or page we may levy a search fee of £7.50 per 15 minutes in addition to the copying fee.

If a search requires formal evidence such as a letter the charge is £15.

Research Service

£30 per hour.  

Permission to copy items at the Record Office

We charge to issue a camera permit. The rates are:

  • Per day  - £5.00
  • 4 days in a 4 week period - £15
  • or Annual - £50.

If staff supervision or use of Record Office equipment is required £20 per hour.

Standard charge for talks and lectures at outside venues or for visits to Record Office. For a bespoke talk where substantial changes need to be made, there is an additional charge of £30.00.

Workshops, for up to two hours, are charged at £10 per person. School visits are charged at £6 per pupil.

Photographs and photocopies are supplied for private research or study only. Permission must be obtained from Cheshire Archives & Local Studies before copies supplied are published in any form. e.g. in a book, on television, or on a website. Fees are subject to negotiation depending on, for example, number of images to be used, crediting, or supply of publications agreed with Local Studies Specialist.
